Toyota RAV 4 Problems

Toyota has often produced car well before their time. The Toyota RAV 4 is one. In this article, we take a look at the Toyota RAV 4 problems that have been reported through the years.

Toyota has a unique design and product mentality. The company likes to design one car and then produce new evolutions of it through the years. Just consider the Camry. It was launched in 1980 and is still with us today, nearly 30 years later. Using such long time vectors for cars allows Toyota to really raise the quality level.

The Toyota RAV 4 follows this general approach. The vehicle is a compact SUV. Launched in 1994 in Japan and Europe, it was far ahead of its time. The 1996 launch in the United States introduced a solid vehicle that provided to be very reliable with the exception of a bad two years around the turn of the millennium – 2001 and 2002. Those years are long gone and the modern RAV 4 is always highly rated. Still, every car has a few problems, so let’s take a closer look at some complaints about the RAV 4.

The biggest issue that has arise with the RAV 4 in recent years involves the 2006 model. The problem was the steering shaft mad noises and the wheel would feel loose. This problem was identified as a intermediate steering shaft issue and a repair was recommended. There was no recall, but the repair was covered by the warranty on the vehicle.

The 2007 Toyota RAV 4 had problems related to the infamous VVT oil line. This was a common problem across most Toyota vehicles and resulted in scathing criticism of the company. As the name suggests, this was a line or hose involved in the circulation of oil through the engine. The problem was the hose would suddenly fail and no warning lights would go on to warn the driver. The oil would drain from the engine very quickly and the engine would then seize up. The vast majority of these have been replaced, but there this line is a problem and 2007 RAV 4 models should be checked very closely.

All and all, the Toyota RAV 4 problems are pretty rare. You might get the one off RAV that has a problem, but they are generally considered a very solid vehicle and usually get very high ratings from independent testers.
