Toyota Avalon Problems

The Toyota brand is one that stands for quality, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t problems with models. Let’s take a look at common Toyota Avalon problems.

The Toyota Avalon is the flagship sedan of Toyota in North America. It is a full sized consumer car with front wheel drive. It is currently in its third design generation and is a four door model. Although Toyota is a Japanese company, the car is built in the United States in Georgetown, Kentucky.

As car models go, the Toyota Avalon has not really shown a tendency towards any major problem. Most reports of problems tend towards specific issues with a specific car. For instance, a specific car owner may have a problem with the car slipping forward while in a particular gear. Regardless, there have been some small reported trends, so let’s take a look.

The 2006 Toyota Avalon should be avoided at all costs. There was something about this version of the car that just didn’t go well. It has problems ranging from oil line leaks to catalytic converters that went bad quickly. The weld points for the universal joints were even found to be problematic. A safety recall was even instituted because the air bag system had problems. If you are considering buying a 2006 Avalon, you should probably reconsider.

Front suspension problems have been reported with the 2007-2008 Avalon model years. The problem is not universal, but there has been some evidence that the front suspension vibrates a bit at higher speeds on freeways. The vibration is considered light, but has been reported to occur on occasion when driving between 65 and 75 miles per hour.

When it comes to Toyota Avalon problems, the moon roof is the source of much aggravation. It works. There is no problem with that. The issue that arises is a loud knocking sound. The problem has existed through the last four model years and Toyota seems powerless to figure it out. This does not occur on all Avalons, which makes it all the odder.

The good news is the 2009 version of the Toyota Avalon has seen some major quality upgrades and reports of problems are way down. Owning the 2009 version is much like owning a Lexus without paying the high price for that name.
