Mini Cooper Extended Warranty

If you own a Mini, you know maintenance and repairs can be a bit pricey. Given this, the new Mini Cooper extended warranty program may be of interest.

You Mini Cooper is a blast to drive whether you have a base model, an z"S" or a Clubman. That performance, however, is based on minimizing weight and maximizing power from as small a power plant as possible. If you don't believe me, consider that this is the very fact your Mini doesn't have a spare tire. Yes, it weighs too much!

Regardless, your Mini Cooper is a highly stressed automobile. There is nothing wrong with this, but it can result in some rather expensive repairs. Transmissions run in the $8000 range and engine repairs are, well, very expensive. This is all more the case by the fact that many cities don't have many competent mechanic shops independent of the dealer. Going to the dealer is always very bad for your bank account.

Your Mini Cooper comes with a four year/50,000 mile warranty. It also comes with a 12 year warranty against rust if you purchased it after 2003. Prior to that, the rust warranty is only 6 years. So, what are your options with an extended warranty? Well, there is mixed news on the subject.

Mini Cooper USA does not offer an extended warranty for your car. They do, however, allow dealers to team up with third party warranty companies and offer warranties to clients. You can talk to your dealer about what they are offering, but think twice about buying it. You can go direct to an extended warranty company and probably get it for much less since you are cutting the dealer out.

Should you consider buying an extended warranty on your Mini? I would unless you have cash sitting around for repairs. Mini Coopers are solid vehicles, but repairs are definitely not cheap.
