Ultrasonic Cleaning of Electronic Fuel Injectors

Fuel filters can only do so much, which means your fuel injectors will eventually get clogged. Ultrasonic cleaning of electronic fuel injectors is the best possible way to rejuvenate them.

Fuel injection systems make the modern car incredibly efficient. They burn gas at efficiency ratings as high as the seemingly impossible 100 percent. The key to that performance is the control of the flow of gasoline. You need air, gasoline and a spark to make any internal combustion engine work. Lose control of any of these elements and the performance of your engine will start to fall off as well.

Fuel injectors are a critical component in the modern car. Fuel runs off a fuel rail through the top of the injectors. The fuel then moves through the center of the injector. It passes through a tiny filter and then into a chamber where it is held back by a plunger. The engine computer controls this plunger through a solenoid and spring system. When fuel is needed, the plunger pulls back and pressurized fuel flow around it and out the tip of the injector in a spray.

This path through the injector is incredibly narrow and can be easily fouled by debris. Gas at the pump now comes with detergent that helps prevent this. You can also buy fuel cleaner additives to try to clean the injectors via the fuel passing through them. Sooner or later, however, a professional cleaning is going to be needed. It may sound aggravating, but it can be like getting a new car once the gas starts flowing evenly again.

There are many ways to clean injectors, but ultrasonic cleaning of electronic fuel injectors is the best way to go. The injectors are submerged in cleaning fluid. They are then hit with ultrasonic waves that literally use sound to blast off gunk, debris and other contaminants. The beauty of the process is it cleans the exterior and interior of the injectors to the point that they appear to practically be new.

Is there a downside to ultrasonic cleaning? Well, it is the most expensive option. You can expect to pay $20 to $30 per injector. You can ship them to a shop, which will clean them and return them by mail. The money is worth it. Dirty electronic fuel injectors rob your car of power, performance and mileage. An ultrasonic cleaning can turn back the clock to the point where your engine will feel like it is practically new.
