How Long Does a Brake Pad Last - Toyota Sienna

The Toyota Sienna is a Minivan for the Japanese automaker. It is known to have brake issues. So, how long does a brake pad last on a Toyota Sienna.

Toyota has long had a reputation of building cars that are reliable and last. Well, this used to be the reputation. The Toyota Sienna is one of many later model vehicles that have had some issues. The biggest problem has been the brakes, particularly the front brakes. Some people have been required to replace them after very few miles.

So, how long does a brake pad last on a Toyota Sienna? Well, there is no definite answer. The life of the pads comes down to how you drive. Do you do a lot of stopping and starting in city driving? Do you ride the brakes with your foot when not braking? All can have a huge effect on the life of the brake pads. Generally, pads should last 25,000 to 50,000 miles.

The Sienna has been reported to need brake work as early as 15,000 miles into its life. This is a very short time period for most vehicles. Toyota has had brake problems across many of its vehicles the last few years. Although it asserts that there is technically nothing wrong with the systems, it believes people are riding the brakes excessively as a result, it has offered a redesign that has more efficient calipers and such. How this applies to the Sienna is unclear, but a visit to a dealer or trusted mechanic would be a smart move on your part.

The rear brakes on a Toyota Sienna are drum brakes, not disc. As a result, they don’t have the same problems. Generally, the drum brakes are believed to last about 40,000 miles or more. The front brakes definitely take more of the load, which accounts for the difference in wear.
