Audi Reliability
Audi reliability is a topic that has seen such a swing over time it is simply amazing. The German car company was once incredibly unreliable, but now is building very reliable cars.
Audi circa 1970 was a company known for building cars that were very shoddy. The car was known to have the quality control of a Jaguar and that is certainly not a compliment. There was even a well known report on 60 minutes about the tendency of some Audi’s to accelerate on their own which of course caused accidents. The cars were simply the pits. Let me give you an example.

My parents purchased an Audi 5000. The car was absolutely hilarious. Parts would fail right and left. It had an automated moon roof. All it had to do was slide back and forth, but somehow the engine powering it seized up half way so it was eternally stuck open. The car went out of tune every three days and the back section of the driver’s seat actually fell of one day! It was el hunko junko if you know what I mean.
Fast forward nearly 30 years later and what do we find? Audi is a brand known for building singularly sophisticated and highly reliable cars! From the A4 to the high end A8, the cars are the king of the hill when it comes to all wheel drive and they are reliably so. Since 2003, the brand has not had any recalls for any of its models. Compare that to Toyota, which recalled over 2 million cars in 2005 alone!

So, does this mean Audi reliability is supreme among all car manufacturers? No. The cars produced by Audi are highly reliable, but every car brakes down sooner or later. A car is merely a collection of moving metal parts and that is a recipe for problems at some point. Still, there are no systemic problems with the Audi products, which is pretty rare these days with most car lines.
Audi reliability is very high these days. As with any car, you need to follow the maintenance schedule for yours. If you do, the car should last a very long time.
