How Much Does an Extended Warranty for a Mercedes Cost?

Mercedes are expensive to repair, which means buying an extended warranty might make sense. So, how much does an extended warranty for a Mercedes cost?

The answer is, as usual, unclear. The cost is highly dependent upon the Mercedes model you have, the mileage and how old it is. If your car is just off the original warranty, the cost can be relatively nominal. If it has been off for awhile, it can be much more. In general, you can count on a starting point of around $1,000 a year. It might be more or it might be less. The key is to shop around for the best price.

You might be shocked to see that figure. Why? Mercedes are infamous for expensive repairs. The older Benz' of the 1970s and 80s were tanks that needed little work. The modern Mercedes is a highly sensitive vehicles and, frankly, is in the shop more often than you might expect. I don't have to tell you how expensive each visit can be.

The thing to understand about a Mercedes extended warranty is you are essentially buying insurance. While the policy will cover minor repairs, you are really guarding against expensive failures. A Mercedes transmission can easily cost you $10,000. The engine mount failed on my friends Benz and cost $1,800 to fix. Most repairs are going to run you a minimum of $500, so the cost of the extended warranty is relative.

The cost of an extended warranty for YOUR Mercedes might be more or less than $1,000 a year. The lowest I've heard of was $450 while the highest was $2,500. Get quotes from multiple extended warranty companies to see what your options are. You might be pleasantly surprised!
