Honda To Speed Up New Model Launches

Honda has long been known for taking its time with new models, even slight upgrades over previous versions. Well, no more. The company is planning to speed up new launches.

Honda has some iconic brands such as the Civic and a loyal customer base. The company has also been known for pushing out cars that are fuel efficient, at least more so than competitors. As hard as it is to imagine, however, the company has started falling behind the times when it comes to the competition.

The problem has to do with launch dates. The company takes years to kick out a new version of a current model and even longer for a brand new version. Competitors, however, are doing updates almost yearly these days. This leads to problems such as we see with the fuel efficiency issue. Three years ago, Honda vehicles as a whole were some of the most fuel efficient. Since then, companies like Ford, VW and Toyota have launched a spate of vehicles that get much better mileage than the Honda models that have not been updated.

This is definitely hurting Honda sales in the United States. Company representatives are openly talking about speeding up the launches. This will certainly keep the cars more competitive, but one has to hope the quality of the models does not drop like we've seen with Toyota.
