BMW is obviously the huge German car company that produces luxury cars that are well engineered and very popular across the world. The company is not actually technically named BMW. The BMW brand has simply become so strong that everyone refers to it as does the company itself now. It is much like the story of Coca Cola becoming so big a brand that most people now refer to soda as a “coke”!
So, what is the real name of the company? The BMW letters stand for Bayerische Motoren Werke AG. This is, of course, the official German name. In America, the company is often called by the English name of Bavarian Motor Works. The company is usually mostly referred to as “Beemer”.
What do the BMW letters stand for? While there is a technical German name, the truth is they stand for quality in car manufacturing.
