BMW 7 Series Night Vision
BMW loves to hug the cutting edge of technology and we drivers love the company for it. The latest hug is the new BMW 7 Series that takes night vision to a new level.
Night vision has been around since the earl 2000s in one form or another. BMW has been offering it for a few years on the 7 series cars, but the system had some weak points in my humble opinion. I found it somewhat annoying to be alerted to the fact that there was a rabbit or something on the side of the road. Well, BMW is launching a new and improved version of the technology.

The 2010 BMW 7 Series is a smorgasbord of technological gadgets. You have blind spot detection systems, radar lane control, heads up displays and...well, you name it. You can spend nearly $30,000 adding gadgets to the car. The best, however, is the new night vision that is a huge improvement over what has been offered on previous versions.
The system turns the headlight system into an afterthought. It extends out to roughly 1,000 feet in front of the car, twice the distance of your headlights. The image is like something out of a movie. We're talking HD here. Everything is crystal clear, even reportedly in the rain.

Previous BMW night vision systems sought to define for the driver if there were living things such as animals or humans up the road. It was a good idea, but not one that really worked all that well. The system tended to identify anything warm as a living being. Driving through the desert just after evening was a bit hilarious! Well, the new system seems to have refined this. Humans are actually identified as humans and animals as animals. Hot rocks are left to their own devices!
The 2010 BMW 7 Series nigh vision is simply amazing. There is only one problem. Do you and I really need night vision with our car? It's a great gadget, but who is really going to use this? Headlights have worked well for a hundred years or so and I'm not sure night vision really improves upon them that much.
