Alfa Romeo Models To Be Released in US
Alfa Romeo is a once great car company that is now a division of Fiat. With the Fiat-Chrysler merger, it has been announced Alfa Romeo models will be released in the U.S.
Italian car companies come with a lot of history. Unique to this history is the fact most of the major brands did not start out as car companies, but as racing car companies. Brands like Alfa Romeo and Ferrari were purely about racing. As racing became more expensive, the brands started selling street cars to pay for the racing. Although the road cars stand apart today, they still carry many of the performance and design elements one might see tied to racing cars.

The merger of Fiat and a troubled Chrysler was thought to be particularly noteworthy for a rather odd reason. Fiat has not sold cars in the United States for a very long time after a lack of quality in the 1970s led to the unfortunate moniker that Fiat stood for Fix It Again, Tony. Alas, the company has its act together these days on quality. The relationship with Chrysler further led many to believe the Italian giant would be reintroducing a host of its very popular small cars to the U.S. market. So far, that hasn't been the case.
The latest news from Fiat is that it will introduce the Alfa Romeo Giulia in 2010. This is somewhat baffling as the car hasn't been produced since the late 1970s! At that time, the Giulia was considered a sporty midsized car. It was not particularly fuel efficient, which has many wondering what Fiat is up to exactly. All indications are the car will just be a complete redesign from the bottom up, but the decision not to launch a compact car like the Fiat 500 first is somewhat baffling.
